PRAISE FOR EMERGENCY SERVICES DURING STORM CALLUM

Carmarthenshire has been one of the worst affected counties in Wales as Storm Callum deluged the nation with heavy rain and strong winds over the weekend.

Road and rail services between Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire were affected by downed trees and flooding over Friday and Saturday as the third named storm to hit Britain impacted power supplies around Amroth and Pendine.

Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate Marc Tierney has praised the efforts and actions of the emergency services in keeping people safe as floodwaters rose to dangerous levels on Saturday.

Marc Tierney said: “Having witnessed the rising flood water in Carmarthen on Saturday, the efforts of the Police, Fire Service, Council workers and other agencies must be recognised.

“All the emergency services acted quickly and with professionalism over the weekend but especially as a red flood alert was issued for the River Towy at Carmarthen, by closing roads and advising people on how best to stay safe.

“My thoughts are with the family, friends and girlfriend of Corey Sharpling who died during the landslide on the A484 at Cwmduad on his way to work in Carmarthen on Saturday.  The whole community will be shocked at this tragic loss of life.”
